Help 25 year old Taima and her orphaned siblings survive in Gaza
United States
My name is Cait, and I am currently organizing a fundraiser on behalf of my dear friend Taima, who lives in Gaza. We were introduced through an extraordinary mutual friend, Nesma, who is also leading a fundraiser that I have linked below.
Taima’s life has been completely upended by the ongoing violence and destruction caused by the Israeli occupation. Not long ago, she lived a quiet and modest life in a villa in Khan Younis with her family. They were surrounded by love, a sense of safety, and the simple comforts of home. But now, terror is her daily reality. Recently, Taima witnessed the abduction of her little brother, and the killing of both her mother and father before her eyes. When she described that moment to me, she said it felt as though her soul shattered. The safety she once knew vanished in a single heartbeat. She tried to scream, but there was no one to hear her.
As the eldest sibling in a large and now fractured family, Taima has been forced to take on the role of caregiver. She looks after her younger brothers and sisters, as well as several half-siblings. Some of the children have been left disabled by shrapnel and other injuries. Before he died, her father asked her to protect them, and she has done everything in her power to honor that promise, even as the weight of responsibility grows heavier by the day. She is still young herself, yet she carries the burden of many lives.
In addition to raising the children, Taima cares for her grandmother, who cannot meet her own basic needs after being left paralyzed by the IOF. Taima manages the household, tends to each family member, and tries to keep them all safe and fed. The demands she faces each day are overwhelming, but she continues forward with quiet strength.
Taima is intelligent, capable, and full of dreams. She once hoped to finish her education, to fulfill her father’s wishes, and to create a better future for her family and her community. But in Gaza, dreams are constantly tested by harsh and dangerous realities. She has no stable income, no permanent shelter, and no access to consistent safety. These are basic needs many of us rarely question, yet for Taima, they remain painfully out of reach.
This fundraiser is a way to offer Taima and her family even a small measure of relief and to remind them that they are not alone. The cost of living in Gaza has skyrocketed. A single pack of diapers now costs between $65 and $80, compared to $7 before the siege. A kilogram of sugar costs $72. Flour, a basic staple, costs over $300.
Every donation, no matter the amount, makes a real difference. Your support can help provide food, shelter, medicine, and above all, hope. It shows Taima that someone is listening and that someone cares.
Thank you for taking the time to read her story. Thank you for standing with her.
In her own words (translated from Arabic):
It pains me to ask, but I must. Please, help me raise my voice. Help me secure a future for my siblings. Help me care for my grandmother. Help me pursue my education. I am not asking for sympathy. I am asking for a chance. A chance to live with dignity. To learn. To heal.
If anyone can help me reach a humanitarian organization, a media outlet, or a group that can support us, I ask you to act.
I am Taima, from beneath the rubble of Gaza. And despite it all, I still believe in hope.
